Description: 

This is a personal project developed within 1 week. It tells a story based on a Japanese folk tale æµ¦å³¶å¤ªéƒŽ. The guest in the game is the main character who followed a little girl dive into water and found an underwater palace. His mission is to ride a boat to the palace and click the bubbles on different islands to restore the lights. When he gained all the lights and collected all the magic crystals, he realized he has to go home. When he reached home, years has passed, everything changed...

I always like to try interactive story telling. One of my goals in game developing is to make meaningful games. It is satisfying to convey my ideas to the guests, to make them think about time and life after playing this game.

 

 

My goal in this project is to create an immersive isolated, dreamlike and underwater atmosphere.  It is a hard task to tell a long and complete story within 5 minutes. I kept the whole game in a mysterious style. Including using the medieval background music and colorful but dimming light effects. The background music with different emotion indicates the emotion curve in the story, making it more immersive. The main interaction in the game is to click the bubble to gain the light. Colorful lighting in different islands is one of the main features in the game. It is controlled by the guest – he can turn on different lights by clicking different bubbles. The guest first wakes up from a dark island and he is told to click the bubble to restore light, then, he was guide to an underwater world. When the guest first enters the underwater world, he has to follow the fireflies to get to the palace. I set a timer and make some poisonous mushroom to increase the tension of this stage, so that the guest would feel safe when he reaches the palace. The palace is quiet and peaceful, but is dark all around. The guest should collect light bubble again to bring light to the palace. The biggest moment of the whole story is when the main character traveled back to the island and he found that everything changed in a sudden. To make this moment great, I switch the background music and use some monologue to give guests information. The island is just the original island, but with different buildings and plants.
